2012/12/08 – 肯夢 AVEDA / Third Place 大安店 歡慶重新開幕

2003年春天

在熙來攘往的大安路上

出現了一座讓城市旅人能夠

駐足休憩的Third Place

Where Everybody Knows Your Name的快樂氛圍。誠心邀請所有曾在肯夢工作過的夥伴們在這一天相聚,共同延續跨時代的記憶與喜悅。

  1. Dear Ping,

Your replies always come in perfect timing. It does seems like this snake year is a year to be a doer. My dad has shared with me a quote which I think it fits for this snake year ”To do great things: I must not only act but dream; not only plan but dream.”

I will stay in HK for a little while as I continue to job hunt and continues taking the necessary steps in rounding up and focus my core talent where I can do what I love which is to create and through my creations to bring positive emotions to people.

A little incident tonight showed me that I must keep Faith and continue to stay positive. Believe that everything will work out the way it was meant to. What seemed to be initially thought of as misfortunate events turned out to be a good thing, a little reminder for myself to have hope and stay positive.

I wish you all the best in this Chinese New Year and that you are blessed with good health and happiness.

If you have time, feel free to check out my latest creative work at http://www.facebook.com/syauphotography

    Warmest Regards,

    Serena

      1. Dear Serena:

Love it. Your dad is a wise man who encourage his kids that believing is seeing.

Recently, I realize that believing is not only seeing, but, has to go through the imagining process first too. This is where the creativity comes into play.

Our youth forgets how to imagine because the harsh reality has forced them to seek security and certainty. I really don’t know what would I do if I were your age and face this unfriendly economy.

This is why I co-founded Ripplemaker Foundation to encourage young people to take accountability and not hand out or any entitlement and start their own micro business with an understanding that he/she will never get rich, but they will surely live a life they choose to.

It is this get rich fast mindset promoted by media and society that has plagued our youth to look down on any meagre income or manual laborer. An artist knows that voluntary poverty is the price to pay to live a life with free spirit and not to be slaved by any means.

I am the lucky few who started business by accident. I never imagine to be rich, however, I do put my freedom and independence ahead of any wealth accumulation or empire building.

Starting small is the mantra I gave to anyone who is willing to listen. Dream big will come naturally when you have repeat paid customers.

        Action expresses priority.

        Ping

  2. Dear Serena:

Don’t know if you were back to Taiwan or not. However, I do wish the Year of Snake is the year for your transformation from a dreamer to a doer.

I agree with you that Taiwan is very unfriendly to foreigners. The government has known this stupid policy for a long time but seems unable to do anything about it. It hurts me when I see Taiwan’s failure to attract more international talent due to the outdated and election oriented labor protection policy. Taiwan will deem to become a second class country if we could not attract and keep international talent. I always advocate a HK style immigration policy to welcome any foreigners who have certain special trade credential and can find a job here in Taiwan. The goal is to welcome foreigners to settle down and start a business here, not to set the stringent regulation and compliance to keep them off. If HK with such a high density of population can do it, why Taiwan cannot do it. Besides, Taiwan will face negative population growth with next 3 years due to the low birth rate. We need to figure out a way to be more globally competitive. How to attract and keep these global citizens is the most effective way.

Well, I don’t spend time on things that I could not control. Therefore, I would recommend you to follow your heart and just do it.

It would be a loss if Taiwan could not keep creative people like.

    Happy Chinese New Year,

    Ping

  3. Dear Ping,

I miss Taiwan already 🙂 I think having grown up in Canada but have the love for Asia, that is why I chose Taiwan and Taichung in particular during my initial stay. Sapporo would have been my other choice 😛

I am on the verge of making a somewhat big decision, I love to create and love food ever since I was a child. I picked playing kitchen over barbie dolls LoL … During my time in Taiwan, I had the chance to get back in touch with my creative roots in arts, photography and food. As one of my mentor from Theatre said to me before I left for Taiwan: “You are so pregnant with creativity, and you are ready to pop.” And I believe in Taiwan is where I “pop” and now just finding how to nourish it.

I am in the midst of thoughts of doing a small startup business in Taiwan…hoping to use my love for creativity and food, combined with my versatile background to be able to bring happiness and positivity to people. That is my dream.

So, I am on the verge of making a leap into that road of starting something small in Taiwan…though it seems to be not as simple for foreigners to start up a business in Taiwan….certain rules that government requires seemed a bit tough to meet for a startup.

Thank you Ping for your reply, I always find your replies encouraging and soothing in ways.

Please Take Care 🙂 I am hoping to be back to Taiwan soon.

    Serena

  4. Sending congratulations from HK 😉 Although things didn’t worked out as I hoped they would, I am re-routing and continue to seek my passion and hopefully one day it will lead me back to Taiwan next year.

I can’t agree with you more on the note that “…people don’t need charity, people just need chance.” Sometimes a chance is all a person needs for them to take flight in starting something great.

Wishing you all the best and hope I will be able to have the opportunity in engaging another inspiring conversation with you.

Have a wonderful Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    Warmest Regards,

    Serena

    1. Dear Serena:

Thank you for leaving this comment to congratulate me on the reopening of the Third Place.

Taiwan is always here waiting for you. I love HK too. I think HK is the place if you are looking for more international exposure and the skills to deal with international executives. It is a very fast pace business environment. No one has the time for reflection of contemplation. This is why Taiwan is a deadly attraction for my HK friends. In Taiwan, with fairly low rent and slow pace, you can still dream what you want to dream.

I co-founded Ripplemaker Foundation is based on this principal: People don’t want charity, people want chance. I also believe that entrepreneurship is the best way to resolve poverty with dignity, not with handout or entitlement.

We just help one entrepreneur in Dulan, Taitung to start his own backpacker B&B with a micro loan. We are planning to extend one or two micro loan a year from Ripplemaker Foundation. Please check out the latest issue of PPaper Business magazine, Issue 48, 1/2013 at 7-11 or eslite bookstore, for this story.

It is an experiment and a statement to show people we all can dream what we want to dream, only if you dream enough. 🙂

      Be the change,

      Ping

  5. Dear Freda:

First, I want to thank all our friends who vote with what they buy. Without their faithful supports, Third Place will not even exist.

Third Place will have her historical significance in Taiwan’s Salon and Spa industry.

Third Place is the first Salon and Spa in Taiwan that don’t use fear based and distrust based Commission System to reward hairstylists or Spa aestheticians.

People told me that I am crazy to trust young hairstylists will work for non-commission. All hairstylists got into this profession for money, not for their passion or service from heart. I just want to prove to them that they are wrong. People want to be trusted and wanted to participate in something larger than themselves. Of course, we have a merit based salary with open book management and 20% profit sharing and a different career paths for all our hairstylists. They can open their own salons and stay within our network, they can become a teacher at Canmeng Institute or they can be a happy hairstylists who practice Daymaking everyday with their best friends ( guests ). Hairstylist is a ” beautiful ” and ” rewarding ” profession if you decided not to put money in the center of your career path. In Canmeng, we are trying to create a new beauty industry which is not built on commission, but on lifestyle choice and Daymaking.

Time really flies, especially, during our age.

I intend to focus my time on Ripplemaker Foundation starting in 2013.

Ripplemaker Foundation’s mission is to help people to realize their dream through entrepreneurship. I firmly believe people don’t need charity, people just need chance.

In many ways, Ripplemaker Foundation is like a Profit for Purpose ( PFP ) business. Ripplemaker Foundation will be financed completely by my own efforts, not seeking any donation or government fund. I think this is the problem for most NPO who needs donors, sponsors and grants to survive. I think PFP business is the next phase, in addition to the buzz business model: Social Business or Social entrepreneur.

If you read my book or search this blog, you will find the origin and the evolution of this PFP Business model.

Well, I am going to put it into experiment now. ( Red Room is actually a kind of PFP business model already, if you look closely. )

Thank you for your well wishes. I shall need it.

    Ping
