  1. Dear Freda:

Great! I can see you are planning to schedule to come to Red Room on 9/21. 🙂

Lately, I am thinking how to leverage Taiwan’s unique strength to create jobs that can keep people like your children who have been educated abroad with great working experience at world class institute. Taiwan has a vast of human resources abroad ( the young and bilingual ). We need to tap into this pool of talent to create a 桃花源 ( a metaphor for Taiwan’s lifestyle, no judgment here. ) of our own. If you read “About Ping Chu” at the top of my blog closely, you will read this

” Now he focuses on creating a business/revenue model that will attract these talented people who want to make a life, not just make a living. ”

This is what’s on my mind long time ago. Taiwan government needs to deregulate foreigners working permit or immigration policy and to encourage these foreigners to start up their business here. These foreigners will encourage the world entering to Taiwan.

These foreigners ( first generation or second generation immigrant ) will create more jobs for Taiwan’s youth. It has been proved through out history that immigrant with high potential usually will create more jobs than those who were born and raise in their native country It is called immigrant entrepreneurism. ( Apple, Facebook, eBay, Google, Yahoo, Kiva, Kickstarter, Coursera…all are founded by immigrant or second generation immigrants.)

I recently get to know a few brilliant HBS ( Harvard Business School ) MBAs. Unfortunately, they all decided to go to Shanghai since there is no high paid and globally challenging jobs here. I told them I agree with them that they should go to Shanghai and tough it out when they are young and ambitious. If I were them, I would do the same: go to Shanghai and work with world class company. However, I would remind them to limit their time in China to 5 years. Please come back to Taiwan and become an entrepreneur. The start up cost in Taiwan is still very small. The market is refined enough to experiment high value added venture. Taiwan needs entrepreneurship to leverage what we can offer to the world. Small but fiercely competitive in the world market.

We also need people like you to be the mentor for these young people to share your experience in living abroad and the new values that Chinese culture needs to cultivate.

Taiwan needs more cutting edge entrepreneurs who can bring the world to Taiwan, not just bring Taiwan to the world.

    Love,

    Ping

  2. yes, yes, i hear you. i totally believe what you said is true.
when i saw Gene early this year, we talked about this too.
Taiwan is a place to celebrate life and to live the living.
i am going to taste this when i come 9/5 to 9/25.
    see you then.

    i am happy for you.

  3. Dear Freda:

I have not met a single long time ( over one year ) international visitor or resident who does not fall in love with Taiwan, even they have lived in Bali, Singapore, HK, Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing or even Tokyo. It is this Ren Qing Wei ( 人情味 ) that we take for granted attracts people from all over the world.

We are working hard to make Taiwan an even better place to live for creative people from all over the world.

I am one of those people who believe that art can change the world.

    Taiwan is calling you.

    Ping
